With a little entertainment provided by Netflix in the chair and a fun prize to take home, we help make dental visits feel less like an appointment and more like an outing. Ready to book your child’s visit? We’re accepting new patients of all ages. Book your appointment today!

When Should Your Child See a Dentist?

We recommend bringing your child in by their first birthday or within 6 months of their first tooth erupting—whichever comes first. That said, if your child is older and hasn’t had a dental visit yet, don’t worry. We’ll help you get started, no matter where you are.

Early dental visits help:

  • Lower the chance of costly problems later on
  • Prevent early tooth decay and gum issues
  • Make dental visits a normal part of life
  • Encourage positive daily routines

What to Expect at Their First Appointment

We aim to make first visits simple and low-stress for both you and your child. Here’s what you can expect:

  • A quick meet-and-greet with our dental team
  • A fun ride in the dental chair
  • A visual check of their teeth and gums
  • Tips for brushing and flossing at home
  • A small prize to wrap things up

We’ll explain each step in easy-to-understand language and take time to build trust with your child.

Keeping Their Smile Clean at Home

As your child grows, their brushing and flossing needs will change. We’re here to help you stay on track with tips like:

  • Choosing the right toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Techniques for brushing wiggly or reluctant teeth
  • Getting started with flossing
  • Making routines feel less like a chore and more like a win

We’ll support your role as a parent and answer any questions you have along the way.

Common Concerns: Cavities & Tooth Decay

Cavities can happen even in baby teeth, so early detection is key. Signs may include:

  • Sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Discomfort when chewing
  • Visible dark spots

If your child has a cavity, we’ll walk you through the options. Most often, we’ll use a tooth-coloured filling to restore the tooth. In cases where extraction is necessary, we’ll discuss how to maintain proper spacing for adult teeth.

Monitoring Growth & Development

Some kids need orthodontic treatment down the road, but early monitoring can make the process easier and less invasive. We’ll keep an eye on:

  • Bite alignment and crowding
  • Tooth spacing and jaw growth
  • Habits like thumb sucking or prolonged pacifier use

If orthodontic treatment is needed, we offer a range of options—including traditional braces and clear aligners—and may refer to an orthodontist for complex cases.

Added Protection: Fluoride & Sealants

For extra cavity protection, we may recommend:

  • Sealants: A thin coating over back teeth to block bacteria from hiding in deep grooves
  • Fluoride treatments: Strengthen enamel and reduce the risk of decay

These preventive steps are quick, painless, and especially helpful for kids who are more cavity-prone.

Extractions (Only When Needed)

Sometimes a baby tooth needs to be removed due to:

  • Severe decay or infection
  • Overcrowding
  • Orthodontic planning

We only recommend extractions when absolutely necessary and always prioritize your child’s comfort and well-being. Sedation options are also available for anxious children.

Creating a Positive Experience from the Start

Every child is different, so we tailor our care to meet their needs. Whether your child is talkative and curious or more cautious and reserved, we’ll take the time to create a visit that works for them. Our goal is to make the dentist a place they don’t mind coming back to.
